Walking Pad Assembly Guide: Unbox to First Walk in 30 Minutes
Most walking pads ship "plug and play" — minimal assembly required. But there are still setup steps that affect safety, noise, and longevity. Here's the complete assembly guide.
What's in the box
Most walking pads ship with these components:
- Walking pad unit (pre-assembled)
- Remote control (with battery)
- Safety key/clip (if applicable)
- Power cable
- User manual
- Allen wrench (for belt adjustments)
- Silicone oil sample (sometimes included)
If anything is missing, contact the manufacturer immediately — don't try to use the pad without all components.
The 8-step assembly process
- Unbox and inspect Carefully remove all packaging. Inspect for shipping damage. Take photos of any damage for warranty claims. Verify all components are present.
- Choose the location See desk setup guide for placement. Key: flat surface, 24" clearance behind, 12" clearance on each side, outlet within 6 feet.
- Place the floor protection mat Center the mat where the pad will go. Make sure it's flat with no curling edges. Floor protection guide.
- Place the walking pad on the mat Center the pad on the mat. Make sure all 4 feet are flat on the mat (no wobble). Use a level if your floor isn't perfectly flat.
- Attach the safety handle or handrail (if applicable) Some pads (UREVO Strol 2E, DeerRun Foldable with Handle) have a removable safety handle. Attach per the manual instructions.
- Plug in the power cable Connect to the pad first, then to the outlet. Use a surge protector — walking pad motors are sensitive to power surges.
- Insert batteries in the remote Usually a CR2032 or AAA battery. Test the remote by pressing buttons — the LED should light up.
- Test at slow speed Press Start on the remote. The belt should start at the lowest speed (usually 0.5 mph). Walk for 2-3 minutes to verify everything works.
Post-assembly checks
- Belt tracking. Belt should be centered. If it drifts, see our maintenance guide for adjustment.
- Noise level. Should be a quiet hum, not grinding or squeaking. Unusual sounds indicate problems.
- Stability. The pad shouldn't wobble or rock. If it does, adjust the feet or move to a flatter spot.
- Remote range. Test the remote from where you'll be standing. Should work from at least 5 feet away.
- App pairing (if applicable). Download the manufacturer's app and pair per instructions. Test all functions.
Common assembly issues
The belt won't start.
Check: (1) Power cable is connected at both ends, (2) outlet works (test with a lamp), (3) safety key is inserted (if your pad has one), (4) remote has batteries. If still not starting, contact manufacturer.
The belt drifts to one side.
Normal — most belts drift slightly during shipping. Adjust the tracking bolt on the side it's drifting toward (clockwise 1/4 turn). See our maintenance guide.
The pad wobbles.
Likely cause: uneven floor. Try moving to a different spot. If that doesn't work, shim one of the feet with a felt pad until stable.
The remote doesn't work.
Check batteries first. If batteries are good, try pairing the remote per the manual. Some pads require pairing on first use.
The app won't connect.
Make sure Bluetooth is on. Try restarting your phone. If still not connecting, the app may be incompatible with your phone — check the App Store/Play Store reviews.
The motor smells like burning.
Stop immediately. Unplug. This indicates a serious issue — contact the manufacturer. Don't try to use the pad again until it's been inspected.
The belt squeaks.
Likely needs lubrication. Apply silicone oil per our maintenance guide. If squeaking persists after lubrication, contact the manufacturer.
Assembly tools you might need

Don't skip these — they're essential for safe, comfortable use:
- Floor protection mat — mandatory for protecting floors and dampening noise
- Silicone oil — for the 3-month lubrication ritual
- Walking shoes — never walk in socks or barefoot
- Anti-fatigue mat — for the standing zone next to the pad
- Surge protector — protects the motor from power surges
The first walk
Once assembled, take your first walk:
- Set speed to 1.0 mph
- Walk for 5 minutes to verify everything works
- Listen for unusual sounds
- Check that the belt stays centered
- If everything's good, you're ready for daily use
For the first week, keep sessions under 20 minutes to let the motor break in. After 20 hours of use, the pad is fully broken in and you can walk for longer sessions.
The bottom line
Walking pad assembly takes 20–30 minutes for most models. The key steps: choose the right location, use a floor mat, plug into a surge protector, and test at slow speed. With proper setup, your walking pad is ready for years of daily use.
